About GODFESTATION by Jendia Gammon
From Nebula and BSFA finalist author Jendia Gammon, Godfestation is an Appalachian weird horror novella.
In Godfestation, Ivy “Fern” Fernberg encounters monstrous beings and strange people following the death of her father. Fern initially brushes them off as hallucinations from complicated grief. Then she realizes that she is not the only one experiencing these visions, and her father could somehow be involved. This is a strange journey of grief, horror, and wonder set in Southern Appalachia.
GODFESTATION is my first novella, and as such, my first horror novella. I am more accustomed to writing length novels and short stories; this was a good exercise for a story in between those formats.
About the GODFESTATION Cover Art
It was a joy to work with artist and illustrator Danika Corrall, with whom I’ve collaborated on character art and book swag items for several other books of mine. This time, she was brought on board by Sley House Publishing to craft an actual cover. For this process, I gave her some framework regarding the strangeness of the story, with an emphasis on Southern Appalachia, late autumn, and the journey aspect. Danika perfectly captured the vibe for Godfestation, adding in wonderful, rich hues and subtle uncanniness. Of course, the sky is phenomenal, with those foreboding eyes. The morning glory flowers and skulls relate to the story. This is a great cover, evocative of my home region and the novella’s atmosphere.
