About THE DAWN OF DUSK AND TWILIGHT

From Nebula and three-time BSFA finalist author Jendia Gammon, writing as J. Dianne Dotson, The Dawn of Dusk and Twilight is a prequel to The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern and The Secret of the Sapphire Sentinel. This is an adult book, unlike the other two YA books in the series. You CAN read it as a standalone book.

The Dawn of Dusk and Twilight is a prequel starting in our present, spanning centuries, with the characters facing the end of the world, their many dramas, and how they built hope from despair, for the future.

Andraste, Bendin, Doc Bozzard, and yes, the infamous Skaarden make appearances here. As told in The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern, Night Living came about after a series of calamities over centuries, not just climate disaster. Many events took place during that time gap.

You’ll learn how this group and their friends and associates (and competitors!) ebbed, flowed, fought, and loved from The Golden Hour (just before everything ends as we know it) to The Dawn of Dusk eras, and into the twilight and full Night Living of the future.

This is a heartfelt tale of the adults who shaped Gen Lightworth and the Fireflies’ futures, with their own rich and complicated histories. How did they each use their unique strengths and weaknesses to build the Lunarpunk utopia of LANTERN…or threaten its future?

THE DAWN OF DUSK AND TWILIGHT completes the trilogy of the Amethyst Lantern Series.

About THE DAWN OF DUSK AND TWILIGHT Cover Art

Once again, my frequent collaborator, the extraordinarily talented Kim Herbst partnered with Android Press to make the exquisite book cover for The Dawn of Dusk and Twilight.

I was glad to able to give creative direction for this final cover of the series, and Kim absolutely understood the assignment. The title represents a shift in our timeline from the present and very near future to the Dawn of Dusk, mentioned throughout the Amethyst Lantern Series, and then the Twilight phase in which the remnants of humanity shifted to Night Living after climate and other disasters. To capture this shift, I wanted a gradation from left to right symbolizing dusk to twilight.

The character on the cover is Andraste, as she is known to the teen heroes of the rest of the series in their Lunarpunk, Night Living future, when she is ancient, but still viable and powerful. On this cover, however, she appears in middle age, as she exists in our very near future. Her friends call her Andi. And she holds within her unknowable strength, wisdom, grace, and empathy, which will be key for her to work to rebuild our destroyed world and guide a better future. Kim has captured Andi perfectly here; wise, intriguing, mysterious… and connected to the Moon.

You can also see a lighthouse and an owl on the cover! Both are nods to the distant future in the first two books.
