What’s DOOMFLOWER about?

The meanest teen queen in high school might be the world’s only chance against killer plants run amok!

Camellia Dume is the meanest teen queen in her Malibu high school, a rich daddy’s girl thanks to her father’s elaborate scams. But she might be the only hero for humanity as an extraterrestrial mutation sends plants tearing across the country and through people in bloody fashion. As if that weren’t enough drama, Camellia just might meet her own personal match or worst enemy, in the new student Wray, as sparks fly and opposites attract. Only by working together can they uproot a deadly conspiracy that may have torn Camellia’s family apart.

Think HEATHERS meets MEAN GIRLS meets DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS and THE THING: gory, horrific, but hilariously so. Perfect for fans of Grady Hendrix.

What Are Reviews Saying About DOOMFLOWER?

There’s a terrific book review from Nerds of the Feather, Flock Together, a Hugo Award-winning blog about DOOMFLOWER!

Here’s an amazing review for DOOMFLOWER as well as interview of me about my influences for the book on The Inkblotters! Read the review.

And here are some awesome review blurbs about the book:

“Bitchy high-schoolers, homicidal plants, and a mysterious conspiracy–what more could you ask for? A real page-turner.”
–Antony Johnston, New York Times bestselling author of Atomic Blonde and  The Dog Sitter Detective series

“ ‘You have the key to stopping this f___g invasion.’ With these words, Camellia Dume–trust fund baby, high school influencer, and cut-throat mean girl–is thrust into a life or death battle to save the world. Funny and fast-paced, Doomflower‘s plot is as twisty as the deadly vines Camellia and her friends must conquer. Equal parts Mean Girls and The Thing (with a bit of Clueless snark tossed in for good measure!) this book will leave you grinning as you cheer on this dark YA apocalyptic showdown.”
–D.K. Stone, author of the Edge of Wild trilogy, and Inescapable: A Ghost Story

“Jendia Gammon’s razor-sharp Malibu horror Doomflower positively crackles with unforgettable characters, sizzling dialogue, and a genuine sense of growing unease.”
–Gareth L. Powell, author of Embers of War and Future’s Edge, and two-time BSFA Best Novel winner

DOOMFLOWER rocks the 80s teen comedy vibe while also bringing in the chills with alien sci-fi weirdness. Lots of creepy fun!”
–Jonathan Maberry, NY Times bestselling author of NecroTek and the Joe Ledger thrillers

Book Blogger Blurbs:

“Best way to describe this book is if you took a blender and threw in:
Mean Girls (2004)-specifically Regina George
Clueless(1995) – Cher, her dad and her advance high tech home
John Wyndham’s (1951) novel Day of the Triffids
The OC (2003) -Ryan the new kid, not rich who just started a new school and all the love drama
Buffy the Vampire Slayer – teacher’s helping kids with their supernatural problems and secret special abilities –
The result would be Doomflower! This book was so fun and juicy it was almost impossible to put down! I literally read it in a weekend.”
Just Another Final Girl Review

“Ok look, if Jendia Gammon’s forthcoming Queer Teen Romance/Sci-fi Horror Mystery extravaganza Doomflower doesn’t get snapped up for film or comic book adaptation STAT I will have to start screaming.
Cinematic echoes of Night of The Comet, Day of the Triffids, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (film), The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love, and a host of others are scattered throughout the story like so many bedazzled gems on a sweater. This was a roller coaster of a read, that has you cheering on the characters and trying to put together the clues to the mystery that takes shape. Gammon writes queer characters that are full of life, the flaws of youth and giant hearts.”
Books for Decaying Millennials

Doomflower by Jendia Gammon is a relentless, fast-paced horror thriller that grips the reader from the very first page and littered with hilarious moments that will have you laughing!”

This is an apocalyptic vibe horror novel with sci-fi and romance elements. It’s got dark tones but also humor, loads of profanity and cutting one-liners, and is quite gory. Very much reads like an 80s/90s teen comedy/drama movie, mixed with the same era’s action and horror films. If it were a movie, it would absolutely be rated R. Proceed with caution, keep your arms and legs and antennae inside the vehicle, and don’t let the plants get you!
