This year, I have signed a number of book deals, and I have also been nominated for several awards for my 2023 books. In addition to those books, my earlier works are finding new audiences. So, what do I write? Basically the full range of speculative fiction. Let’s get into it.
Science Fiction
I write a range of science fiction books and short stories. My first published works were the four books of my space opera series, The Questrison Saga®, which were originally published under my J. Dianne Dotson pseudonym. You can search for them under Jendia Gammon also, these days, from your favorite bookseller.
This space opera series begins with Heliopause, continues with prequel/sequel/concurrent Ephemeris, and then moves into sequels Accretion and Luminiferous. These books are great for fans of Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, The Fifth Element, Doctor Who, Dune, and Foundation. Influences range from classic sci-fi and fantasy stories to anime and darker works. Themes include found family, first contact, alien civilizations, ecology, robotics, dynastic galactic factions, cosmic horror, war, and romance…to name a few.
The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern, published by Android Press, was my first foray into young adult fiction, and it is a blend of science fiction and fantasy set in a Lunarpunk (night-living) future.
It has been a finalist for the Nebula Award, the BSFA Award, and was longlisted for the Hugo Award related Lodestar Award, longlisted for the British Fantasy Award, and considered for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize. For teens to infinity. Themes include coming of age, climate fiction, post-apocalyptic fiction, hope–punk, genetic manipulation, ecology, team-building, and leadership. Read more about this book in my dedicated post about it.
There are two more books in this series, the sequel, The Secret of the Sapphire Sentinel (Autumn 2025) and the prequel, The Dawn of Dusk and Twilight (Autumn 2026).
Horror
The Shadow Galaxy is my cross-genre short story and poetry collection which was longlisted for the BSFA Award and the British Fantasy Award.
Great for fans of Ray Bradbury, John Carpenter, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Stephen King, you will find many dark tales in horror, as well as several in science fiction and fantasy. Some of those are lighter than others. There are also Appalachian tales and some poetry. Published via Trepidatio (JournalStone).
Upcoming Horror, Science Fiction, Thriller
In 2025, I make my horror novel debut with TWO novels. The first is Doomflower (writing as Jendia Gammon), a Mean Girls meets Day of the Triffids campy horror novel. Read more about Doomflower in its dedicated blog post. Arrives April 8, 2025 from Encyclopocalypse Publications.
In May 2025, my thriller/horror/sci-fi novel Atacama (writing as Jendia Gammon) arrives via Sley House Publishing. This is a great book for fans of The X-Files and The Thing, with some splashes of true thriller motifs and also academia and scientific research. Read more about Atacama in the blog post. The cover reveal happens in mid-October and worldwide preorders will happen soon after. (You can preorder the hardcover directly from the publisher also, linked in the image below.)
Also forthcoming in horror is a weird Appalachian horror novella. Once I can announce more details about that, I will (including the name; I don’t reveal those until official announcements). This is an unsettling exploration of grief set in East Tennessee and western North Carolina, for fans of David Lynch and Ray Bradbury. Date: TBA.
Upcoming Fantasy
I will soon announce officially a trilogy of epic fantasy novels that have dragons in them! Themes in these books include a rebellious princess, a by-the-book prince, a ragtag team of characters from all walks of life, a mystical realm, political intrigue, and even a bit of romance! I’m excited to share this series with everyone and think it’ll appeal to fans of The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Wheel of Time, the Pern novels, and works by Robin Hobb, Ursula K. Le Guin, Brandon Sanderson, and T. Kingfisher. Dates: TBA.
And there you have it! A summary of my books out now and arriving soon. I also have many short stories out in the world as well, and several are linked on my books page.
Happy reading!
